Paper Art Commission

When ordering a custom order I will work with you in order to figure out the best styles and colors to match your image or ideas.  Some paper art styles work better with others, some give more depth, and while some are a bit more work than others they may be the most ideal look for an art piece.  Below I describe some of the information around creating a custom piece for you to think about.

Styles

Although there are a few styles of paper art that I do, they are not exclusive and can be and usually combined to created one inventive piece of art.

LAYERED PAPER

Layered paper cuts are elements that are cut from one single piece of paper which are then structured with more paper to created 3D objects.  Multiple layers are attached to build multiple layers giving more depth in the composition.  Added detail in form of multiple flat layers can be glued on top of one another giving more robust imagery.

Quilling

Cut paper strips that are often curled or shaped then glued on its edge.  This technique has a defining texture that changes the imagery when viewed at different angles.  At times I combine quilling with paper cuts to develop more depth on top of what is given from this styling.

Sculpture

3D objects created by either carving stacks of paper or building a structure out of paper to give the most sculpture-like art piece.  Often structures are rounded and more commonly made to represent animals.  I would NOT create portraits out of paper as the technique does not lend itself well to human faces.  This technique does take more work and more time to create objects.

Frames

There are many different sizes of frames that are prefabricated and purchased from a store.  These shadow box frames are economic though are limited in selection.  Generally I have on hand 9x9”, 8x10”, 11x14”, and 12x12”.  I can shop around for larger but usually any larger will need a custom frame which are mostly expensive (estimation: 30x30” could be $400-$600).

All frames come with UV protected glass/acrylic when possible; anti-reflective or museum quality is available upon request (usually double the price of UV glass).  Glass is recommended over acrylic, though heavier it is easier to maintain and cheaper. Acrylic is shatter resistant and lighter, but easy to scratch and could be 8x-10x more expensive than glass options.

Pricing and time

After reviewing your ideas and imagery the pricing will be determined.  Most pieces take 1-2 weeks to complete.  I do require a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total price in order to start any art piece after we agree on the composition and techniques.
